Carly Skali Resigning: thoughts invoked (WiP)

As with the recent 'fall from grace' of Carly Fiorina, i am persuaded that "lone rangers" can't cut it anymore.

In the New Paper article dated 10 Feb 2005, it stated that Ms Fiorina has had "long running series of boardroom rows".

1. Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?

2. Luke11:17 But He, knowing their thoughts, said to them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls.

3. Ephesians 4 speak of unity, and how the diversity of gifts benefits the Body of Christ. which verse 16 of the same states: from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

The case for Agreement
With regards to Amos 3:3 There is a strong point here. I had read an article about PM Junichiro Koizumi in a recent copy of Time magazine. From what i can recall, PM Koizumi does face opposition from his LDP and DPJ folks (which means that he face opposition from within and out of his own party). However, when action is to be taken, he has capable people to back him up and execute them, at the very least, there was enough cooperation for things to be done without failing, despite the possibility of "passive resistance". ("passive resistance" , as defined by Richard Marcinko, are people who seem to 'go along with the changes' but are secretly sabotaging the changes, complaining that things are not working etc, or not putting in enough effort for the changes to be fully effective.)

Fiorina, however, enjoys the "luxury" of open opposition which PM Koizumi enjoys, however, she does it without the supporters that PM Koizumi has, people who are quietly working in the background for the change to fully take place.

The fault of Division
This led to further division, which, as point 2. prophesied, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a house divided against a house falls.

She was not able to rally capable people to effectively bring the change. Division in the boardroom, de-moralization in the workforce due to massive lay-offs and resistance to changes, changes necessary to turning the company around, resulted in the failure of her goals.

Division, as far as the non-christian goes, can be combated by rallying the people. By clearly articulating a goal, a vision in a manner that can be understood by the addressees, the support garnered could have cause the reform to take place successfully. This would require the person to be a visionary, and also an effective communicator. Above all, to be able to see things from the view of the common person, the masses of the workers and addressing their needs- and how their cooperation to the changes would result in their needs being met. For the christian, a true christian who loves God and put God first, prayer is essential, to do the will of God, for wisdom of God to handle the situation, for the right words to speak forth.

The Power of Unity
If one reads Ephesians carefully, this is a chapter which talks about a successful team.
Ephesians 4:1-6
I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

This is a reminder from Paul, that the Church of Ephesus to be patient(longsuffering) with one another, humble and esteem others higher than oneself (with all lowliness and gentleness) to forgive trespass of others and love others(bearing with one another in love) for the purpose of unity in Christ. This speaks of a common vision, to put aside selfish, self-centered, self-serving nature. Personally i feel that the biggest threat to any organisation is 'self interest'. It causes people NOT to desire to do more for the benefit of the whole ministry or department/company. If it is in their desire to 'rise' to a certain position in the company, they may create a competitive culture which, if not managed properly, would cause office politics and an environment that is detrimental to the body as a whole.

But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men." (Now this, "He ascended"--what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.) And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head--Christ-- from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.

This illustrates the ideal team. There is a diversity of people mentioned here, each group/individual is required to fulfill their role so that the body, as a whole, would benefit and grow. Everyone plays a part, and in unity, the entire body can grow to be more like Jesus (verse 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;).

Notice that Paul also said in verse 14 that that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, Which means to say that, if everyone plays their part in the Kingdom of God, that everyone plays their part in the company/department, the organisation will be strong and resilient to the very thing that causes division! Trickery, cunning and deceitful plotting of divisive individuals will no longer affect the people, but all will stand strong in unity.

This would result in verse 15 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. The growth and expansion fo the body as a whole, fully developed and in health, where those who belongs to it would be proud of it and encourage their fellow workers to greater excellence.

It is a tragedy that, when a colleague leaves the organisation, that those remaining in the organisation would organise a farewell party; not to wish the person well, but to celebrate his/her departure from the 'place of sadness!' This is more often than not true for most organisation!
